The Iraqi woman corresponding with a woman in Carbondale responded to Barry Schochet’s suggestion on the radio program “Con Games” that the woman–who fled Baghdad and now lives in Jordan–is likely a Sunni.
The electronic message follows:
I’m mixture of Sunni and Shi’at, my father was Shi’at and my mother was Sunni. My husband is Sunni. So my family is mixture.
Also, I want to tell you that I’m leaving for Baghdad on 15th or 16 th of Jan. My statuse finished since two weeks.
With my best wishes and love.
The Carbondale woman adds:
Iraqi civil engineer Faiza a Arji, a Shi’at states similiar feelings about Saddam’s hanging as the above author on her family Blog www.afamilyinbaghdad.blogspot.com . I met Faiza when I was in Amman, Jordan. She and her family moved to Amman in 2005 after one of her sons was kidnapped by the Interior Ministry in Baghdad.
Barry paints a biased picture of Iran by implying issues started with the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
He leaves out, as does most US media, the 1953 overthrow of the democratically elected Iranian President Mosaddeq which was orchastrated by the CIA under Kermit Roosevelt with the help of the British. It is reported US corporation got a 40% stake in their oil fields.
We installed the brutal Shah and supported him. Mosaddeq was overthrown for wanting to nationalize the oil fields run by the Anglo Iranian Oil Co. As someone who visited Iran in March 2006, the US involment in the overthrow, as well as, US support of Saddam during the 8 year Iran-Iraq war are common knowledge in Iran and the cause of negatives feelings towards Americans.
Americans fail to take responsibility for our actions in creating some of radical Islamist movements such as al Qaeda and the insurgency in Iraq. I made 2 trips to the Middle East last years which gave me lots of insights.

Dear Aspenpost,
Since when did you decide to become a mouthpiece for the Roaring Fork Peace Coalition? If this “women from Carbondale” can get emails from Jorden and other parts of the world, I am sure she can sign up to post.
Her biased agenda is clear cut, and I would love to have those emails posted with their IP addresses intact to show that they are not some fabrication of someone with an agenda who has found a more then willing patsy (Aspenpost staff) to do their bidding for them.
Oh and by the way, you would think that someone who was a SHIA MUSLIM would know the correct spelling of their sect, and not misspell it as Shi’at. Your Carbondale pusher better do her homework a little better if she wants to pass off her agenda to us…there are still some of us not blinded by that mix of koolaid.

I agree with comments from alpha6 only about half the time. But I must admit to agreeing here. That first posted email to the woman in Carbondale struck me as a bit fishy as I read it. (And I caught the misspelling, too.) Actually, something stunk as I read it it. I think this “email” is perhaps some classic homegrown propaganda, and I’d bet a dollar to a donut as to who is behind this purported email.
Let us not hide behind “copies” of emails. Let’s have some names, some ownership, some dignity, and truth.
Let’s have a way to validate posts such as this.
If I had a friend in that region who emailed me info, I would be happy to share it, with his/her permission, and I’d be
happy put my name on it and stand behind it if I trusted it to be factual or a validated opinion from the person.
And secondly, while reading the second supposed email from the woman in Iraq to the woman in Carbondale, the email had an obvious tone of trying to quantify or substantiate the first email. I think there is a bag of stink bait being opened here, and an agenda being pushed. This should be fun to watch!

Dear Fellas:
We’re not a mouthpiece for anyone.
Everyone can have their say, no matter how ridiculous.
I am aware of the issues with the Roaring Fork Peace Coalition and have spoken out against them on “Con Games.” But that doesn’t mean I will shut them or anyone else down just because I don’t agree with them.
Best, Michael!

I don’t think ‘Shi’at’ is a misspelling. Rather, I believe it is short for šī’at Alī (شيعة علي “the party of Ali”).

I didn’t say they should be shut down, I suggested that they should own up to who they are and what their agenda is. I know you as a pretty intelligent guy and thought maybe one of your staff was being duped, fully aware that the RFPC could never get this by the Conman… : )

Funny how, when people don’t like or agree with what is being said, they attack the source’s credibility. I can assure you the woman from Iraq is a real person. I met her while in Iraq in 2002/3, and have been corresponding with her ever since. The “woman in Carbondale” is a friend that last year went to Jordan where the Iraqi woman is a refugee. I put the two in touch and they met several times. The Iraqi woman doesn’t want to be named, as she is afraid of retaliation for speaking out against the US and Iraqi governments. Since English is her second language, her spelling is not great, so the letters have had to be cleaned up a bit for ease of reading, but the content has not been changed, and “Shi’at” is her direct spelling. The comment about her religious affiliation in the second letter was in answer to the Carbondale woman’s query.
Michael Conniff, knows all of this and can verify.
Another note; while the Carbondale woman is a former Peace Coalition member, she is an activist in her own right. She has visited the Middle East several times and has made many trips to Washington DC to lobby our Congressmen and Senators against the war.
Shame on you doubters! Where were you when the president took us to war in the first place? We could have used a credibility check then!

Former?
Has she finished her work?

Funny how when someone with an agenda who is hiding behind some faceless person and won’t offer up anything better then “it’s true cause I said so” is always quick to start back stepping when they get busted out.
I did not know that this woman was a RFPC member, but from the post, it was obvious to me that she was knowing their leftist, anti-Semite, hate America agenda. Thanks for affirming what I already suspected. And since you guys were deceitful from the beginning, I don’t know about others here, but I will be suspect of anything else you post….

OK alpha6, what’s your problem? I write anonymously and you accuse me of being deceitful and having a hidden agenda. But it’s ok that you remain anonymous? And by labeling the Peace Coalition “leftist, anti-Semite, hate America…” you obviously have an agenda of your own.
I thought this was a place to air our “agendas” anonymously, and have a respectful discussion of the issues. If it’s going to degenerate into name calling and accusations, then what’s the point?
As far as the accusation of hiding goes, both the Carbondale woman and myself have been very public with our views. We’ve written letters to newspapers, given public speeches and radio interviews. With a little research, anyone just burning to know could easily find out our identities, as well as the identity of the Iraqi woman.
Now can we just put these petty grievances aside and get back to the discussion?

Steve Campbell, one of the RFPC founding members -talking about the war in Iraq “I think this was all planned way in advance,” he said, “and of course our government is largely controlled by the Zionists and the oil interests, and those two elements are pivotal in the carrying out of 9/11″ I am not name calling. I am just pointing out the facts so that others not familiar with your agenda and tactics are on notice.
Proof is in the pudding.
Second, you didn’t post the letter. It was posted by Poststaff, without a name attached, you just chimed in when your little plan to get others to push your agenda backfired.
I am more then willing to discuss anything you would like, providing you can back it up with facts and intelligent conversation.
Oh, just to head this off, I already know Campbell left the RFPC and started his own wacko group, but then David Duke left the KKK, and that hasn’t changed what they stood for.

Thanks, Alpha6, I appreciate knowing where you’re coming from regarding the RFPC. I understand the confusion regarding Steve Campbell’s agenda vs. the agenda of the RFPC. You are correct, the RFPC split with Steve because there were major disagreements with his views. So if you know that then I don’t understand how you can hold the RFPC responsible for the views of one of its more radical members. Is the reputation of the RFPC forever sullied because of this one man? That doesn’t seem very fair. It’s like bashing the entire Republican Party for the actions of the current president, or for the various scandals involving certain Republicans.
The agenda of the RFPC is and always has been to oppose violence, war and social injustice, and to promote peaceful dialog and tolerance. The organization consists of many people from various backgrounds and points of view working together for a better world. What is so terrible about that?

I, Cathleen Krahe, sent in the e-mail from the Iraqi women living in Jordan. It took me some time to figure out how to use this Blog. I went to Jordan and Syria specifically to hear for myself about how Iraqis felt about the US invasion and occupation of their country. I was told by many it was too dangerous for an American to travel to Iraq.

Welcome Cathleen,
Always nice to have a new voice. I visited the blog you posted. Not surprising it is from a very angry person who was obviously a supporter of Saddam. Starts off “Maliki and his people are psychopaths…” No mention of Saddam being a worse psychopath nor anything bad about him. I guess murdering hundreds of thousands of people who are outside the Baath Party doesn’t count.
Looking forward to more from you in the future.
