I am an admirer of Toni Kronberg and that makes me a party of one.
I love her for one thing and one thing only: she cares about Aspen beyond all reason, and she’s willing to fight for what she believes. She’s got heart and she’s got soul.
Sometimes that leaves her in the land of the wackos and the deranged, but for the most part she’s out there walking the street, going to meetings, getting people to sign petitions, and running around like every good citizen would if they cared half as much. Most of those who criticize her sit on their duffs and whine without doing a damn thing about it.
So let’s cut her some slack. Does it really matter that she doesn’t really live in Aspen? Not to the Aspen City Council, which decided post-haste behind closed doors to let the challenges against Kronberg’s residency to wait until after the election according to a report by Carolyn Sackariason.
“The council will not take any formal action until after the election,” says Aspen City Attorney John Worcester. “It’s not fair to anyone. … The situation is very unfortunate. No matter the resolution, it’s not going to sit well with anyone. It’s a tough one because it goes to the very heart of our democratic process.”
You’ve got to love it. Only in Aspen could somebody run for City Council without actually living here, though there were rumors that a certain longtime law enforcement official running for re-election in 2006 didn’t have a place to call his own, either.
Even so, Toni Kronberg is on the forefront. In Aspen, where housing (affordable or not) is always the paramount issue, and we are only an election or two away from having a bevy of politicos who don’t even live here anymore.
So let’s give Toni a break. She worked her butt off to make it to the run-off in the first place. She defied the so-called “experts,” me included, and she is now the ultimate underdog in a town of top dogs and hot dogs.
So run, Toni, run. You have miles to go before you sleep.

Having a comment deleted is very uncool. It means you got personal and even nasty.
Getting personal is not allowed on any of the Post Time Media blogs and never will be. We value the SUBSTANCE of your comments, not attacks on individuals.
Given that, you can say almost anything you want.
Best, Michael!

Toni doesn’t deserve a break any more than any other politician running for office does.
Do a little research Mr. ConMan and you will find out some interesting things about Ms. Kronberg.
