From an already legendary performance by Ziggy Marley on Fanny Hill last weekend to the upcoming Jazz Aspen Snowmass festival and a “Summer of Free Music” on the horizon: the talent in Snowmass’ is taking it up a notch and vibrating throughout the rest of the valley.
The Saturday night performance that featured ‘Ziggy’ attracted over 5,000 visitors to Snowmass- a number that far outshined last years Jonny Lang performance during the Brew Fest.
And its only beginning: on Saturday, June 23 the 4th annual “Parrot Head Block Party” will take over the village offering family fun, local business sales and, of course, lots of music.
“We like to think of this segue event as the closest that Snowmass Village will get to a Jimmy Buffet Island Theme,” Snowmass press contact Allison Johnson said. “Its also another reason to keep visitors in Snowmass after Jazz Aspen/Snowmass.”
In Fact, one of the featured musical performers for the event, Jake Shimabukuro, has performed with Jimmy Buffet in the past along with other novelties; Blues Traveler, Fiona Apple, Diana Krall and many others.
Snowmass Special Events Director Josh Behrman describes the Greencards as ‘your typical gluegrass independents’ and Shimabukuro as one of the worlds top Hawaiian Ukulele musicians.
Shimabukuro will hit stage at 1 p.m. Saturday followed shortly there after by The Greencards at 3 p.m.
“You will see the whole village basically dressed in Hawaiian,” said Special Event affiliate, Vanessa Nelson. “This is just another example of good family fun is Snowmass.”
And it wouldn’t be family fun without the special guest appearance of ‘Sparkles the clown’ along with tons of kids games and give-a-ways.
Not to worry, the adults won’t be left: with drink specials from local restaurants such as the Outdoor Grill, Zanes, Stew Pot, Goodfella’s and many many more.
Nelson Said, “Liquor distributors have setup a deal with the local restaurants so that they can whip around and serve-up margaritas and pino-coladas for practically no cost.”
