Dear Amanda,

There's a lot of enlightened silliness on this sight. I enjoy the community and the lively debate. But, when I think about your journey and the courage and pluck you so clearly have in abundance, all other topics (mine included) pale, and I am humbled by your steady grace and dogged determination. Nothing I write will ever be as important (to me) as your posts, and the legion of people you so bravely represent.

I have written of my travels in India. And I am starting a sailing foundation for the wounded who have and will continue to return from Iraq and Afghanistan. I have named the vessel Kerala, after the southeastern state which I have yet to visit, but will I hope, in time.

Kerala, loosely translated means 'God's Country.' And, indeed, that is what I sought as I walked in the footsteps of the Buddha in Bihar. I know Delhi quite well, and have never encountered a more kindly aggregation of humans than I found in India. Just saying the name "India" conjures a world that is so rich in intelligence and beauty, so ancient and so wise.

My 40' sailboat is being fitted out with the wounded veterans I will be sailing with firmly in mind. We've kept the boarding gates to six feet wide, and are opening up a dialogue with the Wounded Warriors Foundation. I'm going broke setting up this dream, but the money will come. Perhaps one day, you'll come aboard, as I'm sure your experience will be an inspiration to the young men I will be meeting.

I go back to grade school with Michael C and will be coming out in February for some alpine air and later on attending his wedding May. I hope we will meet some day.

With appreciation,

Hugh McCormack (Hugh520)
