Why I Support Ron Paul And His Ideas

Dr. Ron Paul has been termed a loon, a wacko, insane and more by the “mainstream media” and many of the self-appointed radio talk show experts.

If you take the time to read his thoughts and intelligently analyze the positions he takes, you will find him anything but insane or a loon.

Although he has no real chance of winning the Republican nomination and will probably have little or no effect on the official party platform, his message remains viable and pertinent. And I believe more important than ever as our country heads to “Hell in a hand basket”.

My main reasons for my support of him are:

1. The Constitution. Dr. Paul believes in the Constitution. It is the guiding force for government and the laws enacted by Congress, not something to be taken to the shredder when it gets in the way of someone’s agenda.

2. Integrity. Ron does not “Stick his finger in the wind” each day to see which way the polls are blowing. His positions are well thought-out, firm convictions. He does not waver or compromise to garner support and/or donations.

3. His Proposed Solutions To Problems. A plank by plank analysis would produce a small book, given my penchant to be verbose. I will present one or two each day. Some of what is presented are my views, some are direct excerpts from Dr. Paul’s website. (http://www.ronpaul2008.com)
The Economy: As with most of Dr. Paul’s positions, his views are considered radical and could not be implemented while maintaining the status quo. Not amazily to me, the views of the Founding Fathers would also be viewed as radical by today’s standards.

Ron’s four point plan for the economy is this:

  1. Reduce the tax burden and eliminate taxes that punish investment and savings, including job-killing corporate taxes.
  2. Eliminate wasteful spending. Reduce overseas commitments. Freeze all non-defense, non-entitlement spending at current levels.
  3. Expand openness at the Federal Reserve and require the Fed to televise its meetings. Return value to our money.
  4. Repeal Sarbanes/Oxley regulations that push companies to seek capital outside of US markets. Stop restricting community banks from fostering local economic growth.

His message is simple. Reduce taxes and reduce government spending. Money is the property of the people that earn it. Lower taxes must be offset by lower spending. This is the real economic stimulus package. One that allows us to make decisions for ourselves instead of having government take our money away and decide how it is to be spent. America existed and grew for 140 years without an income tax.
The 16th amendment to the Constitution modified the original intent of the document. Until passage of this amendment, the Supreme Court consistently held Congress had no right to impose a tax on individuals. The Founding Fathers realized that “the power to tax is the power to destroy,” which is why they did not give the federal government the power to impose an income tax. Dr. Paul introduced legislation in 2003 to repeal the 16th amendment, known as the Liberty Act.

Reinstate the free market philosophy that built this great country. End corporate welfare and government interference. Subsidies rarely, if ever, work and serve to only create artificial prices for services and commodities. The return is never worth the investment.

Issue after issue, his message remains the same: Lower taxes and reduced government spending benefits the citizens and the economy. And tax money is much better spent at the local level than the national level.

  1. I like your post; Ron Paul is a character, and i definitely don’t agree with all his viewpoints, but he has some interesting things to say.

Too bad he didn’t get much of a chance to speak during the Republican debates, but his stance on Iraq was right on.
