After a one year hiatus, the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet presents: 2008 Summer Dance Series, (formerly Aspen Dance Festival) is back and better than ever! From July 17 thru August 9, 2008, four of the most talented and unique dance companies around the globe (including Aspen’s very own Aspen Santa Fe Ballet) will take the stage for three weeks of energetic, graceful, and athletic dance. After a whirlwind tour of the United States and a second appearance in Italy this spring, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet kicks off the 2008 summer season of dance with a thrilling program that features brand new works by three of the world’s most sought after choreographers, rising star Jorma Elo from Finland, Itzik Galili from Israel and a multimedia work by our most popular choreographer Nicolo Fonte. The program will conclude with a revival of ASFB’s wildly successful signature work, Noir Blanc by Moses Pendleton.Special Family Matinee July 19, 4 pm

Since leaving London’s The Royal Ballet to form their own company, Michael Nunn and William Trevitt have established The Ballet Boyz as one of the most cheekily original and innovative forces in dance, combining multi-media elements of film and video, pop music and newly commissioned work from today’s contemporary choreographers.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet at the Benedict Music Tent- August 6

After last year’s sold-out performance, the world-renowned Aspen Santa Fe Ballet is collaborating with the Aspen Music Festival and returning to the Tent stage with innovative repertoire and live music, this time performed by full orchestra. A blending of the best of the Aspen arts scene in one great evening.

The program will feature 1st Flash choreographed by Jorma Elo and danced to Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius’ achingly beautiful Violin Concerto in D Minor and Wolfgang by noted choreographer David Parsons, a witty and exuberant dance that highlights the playful music of Wolfgang Mozart.

Direct from Bahia, DanceBrazil makes its Aspen debut, bringing us the power and beauty of Afro-Brazilian culture. Blending elements of Capoeira with intoxicating rhythms and live music, Dance Brazil is truly in a class of its own.
