A new survey of more than 400 fisherman and other outdoorsmen indicates that more control is needed to preserve habitat on the oil rich Roan Plateau. The area, located northwest of Glenwood springs—contains nearly one trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
Three skiers, one from Denver and two from the UK, received fines of $250 each this week from a Pitkin County judge—after they were caught skiing out of bounds at Aspen Highlands.
Since the debacle on the national credit scene began with the near collapse of lending institutions—another hold has been placed on local development. Plans for a club at Snowmass village, to have been made up of fractional time share units—-is suspended. Development partners Jim Light and Jim Chaffin has pulled out of the contract with Related Westpac—the primary developer of Base Village. Base Village itself is still seeing some construction continue—primarily on the Viceroy Hotel—-but is conserving as are other builders and developers—-not by choice as much as from the pressure to hold off——-until the recession is over.
That may not happen soon – but in Aspen there are more visitors than expected—and more are hoped for during the 13th winter X games—which will be held at Buttermilk beginning on January 21st.
