Aspen-Based AREDAY- American Renewable Energy Day – Prepares for 5th Annual Event in Aspen after Co-Hosting the Green Inaugural Ball in Honor of the inauguration of President Barack Obama

On January 19, 2009, Aspen-based organization American Renewable Energy Day (AREDAY) officially co-hosted the Green Inaugural Ball chaired by former Vice President, Al Gore. The star-studded, black-tie event, held in the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. was produced by Kevin Wall from Live Earth and featured guests Al and Tipper Gore, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Bobby Kennedy, Colorado’s Governor Bill Ritter and many other celebrities, elected officials and national environmental organizations. Musical group Maroon 5 performed for the enthusiastic crowd.

AREDAY brings to Aspen leaders from public and private sectors, for and non-profit organizations and sectors to discuss and demonstrate how we can move from a fossil fuel based economy to a clean, renewable-based future. Annually produced in Aspen, Colorado in August, past participants have included: Ted Turner, Peter and Jennifer Buffett, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Majora Carter, Lester Brown, Amory Lovins, and Jerome Ringo, among others.

Chip Comins, founder of AREDAY states, “I was humbled and honored to represent my hometown of Aspen and the State of Colorado at the 2009 Green Inaugural Ball and take part in such an exciting moment in the history of our nation. Now we must all work together with President Obama to quickly implement a new green energy economy, help stop global warming and create real long term economic security for our country and the world.”

AREDAY came to Washington to help promote the fast emerging green energy economy and to celebrate the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama.

Over the course of three days, the downtown core of Aspen becomes a nexus of renewable energy demonstrations, talks and special events. One special attraction featured the national release of Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental documentary, “The Eleventh Hour.” In 2008 AREDAY featured the Sundance Award Winning film “Fields of Fuel.”

AREDAY teamed with BlueWater Entertainment to shoot footage during the inaugural event for a video blog titled ”On The Green Line,” promoting the values of President Obama’s stated policy of doubling the renewable energy capacity within three years, including interviews with T. Boone Pickens, Senator Maria Cantwell, Jackson Browne, and more.
