A Basalt couple, nearly killed by a drunk driver last year, appeared in Eagle County Court on Wednesday—saying the man who ran into them should serve time in prison.
Jeff Reese and Susan Grove were returning from a baseball game in Denver on May 8th—-when their SUV was hit by a truck driven by Oscar Canas Portillo. Both were in a coma for months—and are still struggling with recovery. The victims expressed forgiveness for Portillo—-but also asked the judge to sentence him to prison. Judge Thomas Moorhead is expected to sentence Portillo by the end of February.
Even with the house passing the multi billion dollar stimulus package—if the money is approved by the Senate—it may still not help Colorado’s economy much. Governor Bill Ritter says a correctional facility near Rifle may have to close to save money—–up to sixty people could lose their jobs.
Everyone’s tightening the belt——-even the Postmaster General is proposing that the policy of delivering the mail six days a week be cut to just five.
