Plans to build up to one thousand homes just south of Glenwood springs At Cattle creek—on land owned by the largest developer in the area: Related-Westpac, are still up in the air.  No one at Westpac is talking about the nearly 500 thousand dollars owed to various contractors at the site—although a media spokesman mentioned negotiating with other companies to reconcile their issues…it’s unlikely –until the economy recovers, that the development will start up again in that area.
A fire that started by internal combustion last night at the Pitkin County Landfill required firefighters from the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department to bring under control as winds of 25 mph whipped the flames to several feet high—the containment will continue this morning—as crews and heavy equipment flatten a mound of debris and dirt—making sure the fire is out.

Aspen’s incumbent Mayor, Mick Ireland, talked to about a dozen supporters in front of the closed Zele’s Café downtown yesterday afternoon—outlining a marketing plan that would include the number 7-9-0-8 (the city’s elevation in feet) as a tie in to deals that could send the message “aspen is affordable!”     The numbers could tie in with package price deals on golf for example—or a dinner for two at downtown restaurants.

Let us know what you think –how to market the city this summer?
