[Back in early 2004, I answered programming director Sam Scholl’s question at KNFO, the local talk radio station, by saying: “I’d really like to do a liberal talk show.”]

Well Michael, you asked and the man said, "Yes."

Someone once asked George Burns the secret of his (and anyone's) success. He answered, "Don't fall in love with your bed." Thus are careers made and prayers answered. We ask; we seek; we knock. And to our sometimes astonished self the world responds.

I've known you since sixth grade, so I can say with reasonable authority that you've always been a guy that wanted "the ball." And you always knew (and this is important) 'why' you wanted it, even if it was to throw a blistering bounce pass into my unready hands (separating skin from nail) so I could make, or not make, the easy lay-up.

You thought global and you got local. which means you've all the blessings of community, which is, after all, what it's all really about. Who says there aren't any "Mother-Loads" left in Colorado?

I'm sure putting on a thoughtful show is no walk in the park. Liberals aren't blessed with an abundance of limbic certainty (a theme Ed and I are exploring in another string), but it's a price worth paying and getting out of bed for. "Good night Gracie."

Here's to another 5!
