Nathan,

I feel that faith is very different from religion. To me religion is something hijacked for political purposes of manipulation. If you have faith, you don't need bricks, mortar, crucifixes, King James bibles, Torahs, and Quarans. You can enjoy faith in a grove of Aspen trees, or tumbling stream.

Your logic on this topic is very agreeable and sensible. The problem is that there are those who feel deprived because they are no longer going to be able to step on someones's throat without a new found accountability.

This whole issue of gay right is a joke to me. I thought when the US finally realized that black actually count as real people that we would be over equality issues. Religious folks need to realize that the United States does not practice religion. Whether or not something is morally correct, it should not be up to the judgment of the government unless it interferes with someone else’s freedom. A marriage is a contract. If we start naming or defining legal contracts with religious beliefs than we are implementing religion bound by law. I don’t know who wants to live in an country bound by laws to religion, but even as a Christian I certainly don’t. If the word “marriage” is offensive, no matter how it’s legally defined, it should be the responsibly of the government to remove it. I personal don’t care what people call their legal contracts. It doesn’t interfere with my religious definition of marriage.

The reason same sex parenting is an issue is because people have personal beliefs against homosexuality. It is not because people are concerned for the children. If their interest were in the children then they want what was best for the children under real circumstances, and not focus on unachievable circumstances. The fact is adoptive children can either go parentless or have parents with faults. It is very hard to make the argument that children are better without parents, even in the worth circumstances. For example, a lot of times we give custody back to parents who have done some terrible things. We do this because we all know how important having parents is. My point is that the people coming out with these studies are not comparing children raised by same sex couples with children without parents. They are instead comparing straight parents to single parents or homosexual parents. Even if the data shows one set of parents is better than the other, would we than conclude that only the best parents can have children, while the rest of the children must go without any parent. Of course not, but it is the argument used. The religious right tries to stop same sex couples from adopting children, but yet they have never made a convincing argument that those children are better off without any parents. I would like to see a study that shows people that don’t wear watches make worse parents, so then we could limited them from adopting children too. Until all children have a home with parents, this shouldn’t even be a discussion. The more loving people in a child’s life the better off the child will be. And that should be the only criteria to
meet for adoption, a loving household.

Now onto the Con Man.

I don’t believe in condemning people for their views even when they differ from mine. So I share your frustration with people when they condemn homosexuals. But when you condemn people by questioning their faith or calling their views on homosexuality ignorant, you are participating in the ignorant anger that you disgust. I am religious and believe homosexuality is immoral. However my views are based on logic and I have no problems defending them. I am with the movement of equality, but that does not mean that it is wrong for me to make a moral choice. My fear of this gay right movement is going pass over equality and land on suppression on the other side.
