The swine flu outbreak in Mexico has attention worldwide as travelers to that country are feared to have spread the virus.  In the U.S. there are almost fifty cases of the strain now, and that is expected to rise, with the center for disease control issuing warnings on prevention while slow distribution begins on an anti-viral drug to combat a worldwide pandemic.  The bulk of infections are in New York and Ohio, with a few in Texas and California.
There are no confirmed cases in Colorado, but Governor Ritter has requested some drugs from federal agencies just in case—and locally health officials are springing to action.   Press conferences are scheduled today and tomorrow to update the local danger—which is low at present.
Precautions are the same as during regular flu season—avoid crowds, watch for symptoms of fatigue and nausea, and wash hands often.
Governor Bill Ritter rallied with staff members at the Colorado Tourism Office on Monday to declare May as “Rediscover Colorado Month”..why, says Ritter, travel outside the state when you can enjoy what’s offered here, including bike trails—a prominent ad features happy cyclists on the trail through Glenwood Canyon.¼br /> The state launched a new website to tie in with the effort to keep tourism dollars at home—-HotDealsColorado.com
