The number of swine flu cases in the U.S. has risen to nearly 110, and it could easily be detected in our area, said local health care experts on Wednesday. No cases in Colorado at this time—but the danger is very real for our area, after the outbreak in Mexico. One death: a two year old, visiting Houston with family from Mexico—and it’s encouraging that the red flags are out and people are paying attention but still….this will be an ongoing threat for some time.
We will be closely watching how low efforts may make a difference in deflecting swine flu infections here, but you must be alert….any signs of persistent coughing, sneezing, fatigue and other flu-like symptoms must be accompanied by a trip to the doctor’s—it is not worth the risk to think that it might not be the flu.¼br /> Tomorrow morning on our sister station: TV Aspen, we’ll include an interview with Dr. Cohen—a cardiologist who knows a lot about how dangerous this latest strain of influenza is. That’s on News of the Future, on Comcast Cable Channel 19, Resort Sports Network, airing at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night at 10:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, the World Health Organization increased the official danger of a world wide flu pandemic to the “imminent” category.
