Jim Laurence News Roundup

Monday June 1, 2009
It’s been one week since solar panels were swiped from the roof of the new Carbondale Recreation center——-the building is located next door to the town’s police department.

Despite assurances from police Chief Gene Schilling that the theft is under aggressive investigation—there are no leads.

30 panels were taken early on Memorial Day.  Each costs about one thousand dollars.
KUUR this week will be presenting stories dealing with the difficult issue of child abuse within Pitkin County—-more than 130 cases of alleged abuse reported in 2008—-that number may be eclipsed this year.

We are working now to find out why a 21 year old man allegedly injured his child last Thursday night—

Mason Levi Martin of Rifle faces more than a dozen years in jail on felony charges of abuse after a baby suffered broken ribs after Martin allegedly grabbed the child at a residence in Aspen Village.

Martin is scheduled to appear at 10:30 this morning at the Pitkin County courthouse to face charges from the district attorney.

stay tuned throughout this week as we focus on the subject of child abuse—and if you have any opinions, news tips or suggestions about this or any news story—let us know online at news@aspenglenwood.com………

We have some very exciting news to share with you ——-Beginning today—KUUR, and KSNO are joining forces!—–we’ll be providing local news in depth on both stations, which under FCC rules, will be operated as sister stations.  ¼br /> No changes in format at either station—-no changes in staff (whew!)—-
