Jim Laurence News Roundup

INCREDIBLE!  Can you imagine driving along a mountain road—-suddenly a boulder slams into your vehicle—and you find yourself rolling toward a boiling river in a rainstorm?  That’s what happened on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30—when a land rover driven by Ryan Fleming was headed about one mile up the Frying pan road when the rock hit the car—his wife Allyson, and dog Milie—stayed inside the vehicle as it was forced about 30 feet down an embankment and into the Frying Pan River——-surging with fast moving water from cloudbursts yesterday afternoon——————all three made it to safety—–Allyson Fleming describing the incident—it happened so fast, she said, we didn’t have time to even think –only to act—as they crawled out the back window——leaving the car in the river.

Those storms also caused lighting strikes to start several trees ablaze on Basalt Mountain.  Diligent listeners called local news—-we made live reports—-as the basalt rural and fire protection district crews climbed to the site of the fire and set a perimeter quickly—-no extensive burning and no injuries—-but the deep growth of fuels in the back country primes the mountains for more wild land fires as the lighting is expected to continue each afternoon.
Watch out for rain loosening those boulders—-and for smoke in the hills.

Rain showers will not dampen the mood at Fanny Hill tonight—head out to Snowmass Village and partake of the great music of the Ryan Shaw band—-think the music influences like Wilson picket—really great sounds and no charge!  A great turnout for the summer at Snowmass Village tonight the music starts at 615!
