Marcsothecuban: Class Warfare and The Golden Goose

Class Warfare and The Golden Goose

The Fable of the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs has always been of one of my favorites.  But for the longest time I thought it was a bit preposterous to think that anyone fortunate enough to have one would hurt their Golden Goose.   Today, however, I see an interesting parallel with our Great Government Ideas (GGI) and the Fable.

It seems like the premise to funding many of this year’s GGI is simply to raise taxes on the rich and to target businesses that make too much.

You may recall,  the Fable does not end well for the Goose or the man and his wife.  Yes, the story is a bit cynical- at one level it says that many people, when blessed with a Golden Goose, instead of loving and nurturing it, will  sacrifice it for the fantasy of quick, near-term gain.

The moral of the Fable is that the Golden Goose, if nurtured, is capable of producing golden eggs for a long time but if not,  greed can destroy the source of wealth.

Is it not possible that those who want too much can lose everything?

Nice work . . . and you are so right . . . . the reality is that the people who kill the golden goose have no clue that they are killing it and then they will blame some one else when the goose dies . . . .

It is very much true. Unfortunately, Wall Street gave us a pretty dramatic example of the consequences of unchecked greed in just the past year or two. So few of us ever really seem to learn.

Greed continues to lead the new Administration way. To steal from the poor to take and melt the Golden eggs so everyone will have some Gold leaves a spoiled broken egg. When we dont take the egg and incubate it, and grow new chicks but instead break it for the quick fix that has no future ahead is where the same place Communism took the poor of Russia and 90 plus years later, they are all still poor, and the social MEdicine in the UK or Russia leads to one place quickly for the seriously ill, death. The new GGI is a place to spoil and break the egg and destroy what so many have sacrificed for. In the rush to increase overhead with wild ideas such as the new Czar system leaves me in shock and awe(Panic) of the audacity of the new GGI.

Well if any of you can point to one example in the last 3 or 4 centuries where tax rates lower than ours produced an economy based on VALUE ADDED PRODUCTS, with a better quality of life than we have — show it, explain it, otherwise crawl back and entertain the GOP base craving for lines, or you could just visit the local aviary, just avoid psittacosis.

Of course I can point out numerous examples where higher tax rates have produced better qualities of life than we have. But who needs facts when mythological pathos will do.

The Fair Tax people have researched the impact of tax reform on productivity. Busy site, but here’s a pdf research piece you might find interesting:
