Snow showers will increase today.  Roads in the area are wet—with new snow falling in Aspen but only a dusting so far.  The outlook still is that as much as one foot of snow will fall through the central mountain passes by tomorrow morning—-the time for winter driving is here.
Pitkin County Commissioner Michael Owsley challenged this week, costs for helping to finance the ninth judicial district.
D.A. Martin Beeson told the BOCC on Tuesday that together:  Garfield, Pitkin County and Rio Blanco County—will have to contribute more than three million dollars to handle the case loads for next year ( most of those are in Garfield County).
But Owsley said the breakdown of just over ten percent for Rio Blanco County versus the 18 percent for Pitkin County was unbalanced…because Rio Blanco County had more filings.
Beeson explained the system is based on population—–Rio Blanco with about half as many county residents as Pitkin.

Four jobs including one police officer’s position have been cut from the Town of Carbondale’s budget:  planners in the community are determined to be conservative spenders in the wake of a 25 percent decrease in sales tax revenue for 2009.

Lots of restrictions on when you can go—but at these prices—how about a trip by air?
Dallas based Southwest Airlines is charging flyers only a bit more than what it costs to check a bag at some airlines—for trips under one thousand miles.
One way fares for travel up to 375 miles:  $25     $50 to 549 miles, and just $75 for a one way flight up to 999 miles.    More than one thousand miles?  $100 one way.   Travel between December 2nd and 16—-or between January 5th and February 10th.
We’ll be checking with local airline expert Bill Tomcich of Stay Aspen Snowmass.com to see how he sees this move by southwest—-and what competitors might do to increase their business.
