Welcome To Mayor Mick’s New Blog

Welcome to my personal blog about life in Aspen from the point of view of a 30 year resident who is also the Mayor and likes his job, almost all the time.

The intent of this blog is to tell citizens and visitors about what I see going on in Aspen, aside from the political activities of which perhaps too much is written and can be seen and commented on elsewhere.

Today I spent a lot of the afternoon wandering downtown.  I was invited by Tom Kilby, chief of the
World Cup Window Display Committee, to help judge Winternational – Olympic oriented window displays.  Chris Klug, Olympic snowboard medalist and Snowmass Mayor Bill Boineau , Lots of creativity there and some nice local touches, this is a small part of the World Cup volunteer activities that show the world Aspen’s skiing at its best.

Ute Mountaineer and the new (relatively, for Aspen) American bank on Mill and Main had excellent displays which you might want to have a look at this weekend. The ultimate decision will be done by voting in the Aspen Times, see http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20091126/NEWS/911259953/1077&ParentProfile=1058 for details.

Aspen Football awards

It’s probably a record.  Aspen Skier’s were honored with 12 spots on the all state team including :

Leading rusher (2,500 yards plus) Nick Ufkes along with quarterback Anderson Cole, Taylor Mayer, Matt Holmes, Dane Christensen and Walker Moriarty. Also, honorable mention Jonathan Woodrow, James Britvar, Nick Codd, Quinn Morehead, Andrew Papenfus, Forrest Thomas and Rex Christensen.

At least one skier, Jack Bird (disclosure, my nephew) has a shot at all state all academic.  That award comes later.
