Some weeks ago I decided on-air to boycott conservative talk in both its radio and television forms and I’ve never felt better about a political decision in my life. As a talker, that decision has cost me a couple listeners on “Con Games” but it’s been worth it because I no longer have to contend with the white noise of conservatism.
The concept of white noise makes total sense to me in more ways than one. You have the obvious and initial notion that the rabid blather of conservatism, heard in its purest form in millions of homes across America, cannot be parsed into dissectable, understandable waveforms. There’s very little insight and meaning to be had but there is non-stop noise galore: the bleating of those who see none of what ails the world as their fault.
Must be nice, huh?
Instead they are immersed and mutually intertwined in low-grade but high-volume conspiracy theory that sees the devil, sometimes literally, in anything and everything suggested by liberals. On my show I’ve suggested without sarcasm that if liberals were against the idea of climate change then conservatives would be for it. Without us, as in baseball, they don’t know nothing.
And then, of course, there is the more insidious but equally appropriate racial definition of white noise from the Right. It so happens that almost without exception all the know-it-alls on Fox News and conservative talk radio are white. With the exception of Michelle Malkin and Michael Steele, you can look and listen long and hard and find nothing but white people saying their world, presumably and historically white, is going to hell in a handbasket. The coincidence of the first black President places such white noise in stark relief.
Coincidence? Methinks not. Methinks in fact that racial unease permeates the white, who see Brown v. Board of Education as nothing beyond judicial over-reaching.
Can anything of value be seen amidst all this noisome nonsense. I suppose: twirl your radio dial in an electrical storm and you just might pick up a few strains of Mozart, but my plan is simply to do without. Sometimes, when things grow quiet, one can actually come up with something new.

There is no difference between the left or the right.
Our government has failed us, obama/bush/clinton are all traitors and sold the middle class down the river.
