A tow truck went off the right side of highway 82 near the old Snowmass Conoco yesterday , hitting a utility pole and dropping power lines across the highway.
55 year old Greg Beightel, working for the Glenwood Springs Shell Station, was driving the truck in the up valley lanes (about 1:30 yesterday afternoon), just past the old Snowmass Conoco, when he went off the road.  The driver was not injured—but was cited for careless driving.  It took about two hours for the Colorado state patrol, the basalt rural and fire protection district, and deputies with Pitkin County to secure the area—–crews are on site this morning reinforcing the power pole—use caution as you approach that area—-at the intersection of highway 82 at the turn off to Old Snowmass.

21 year old Mason Levi Martin—who earlier this year appeared in Pitkin County Court on charges of child abuse and neglect—–received a sentence on Monday —-of 45 days in jail.
Martin agreed in a plea bargain —– that’d he’d been negligent when he held a baby at his girlfriend’s Aspen Village Home so tightly—- that the infant’s ribs were broken.
His attorneys argued that Martin did not intentionally hurt the child…the judge agreed, citing the defendant’s age, and efforts to stay employed and sober.  If Martin stays out of trouble for four (4) years, the charge of felony child abuse resulting in serious injury will be removed from his record.
Face book Frenzy!  1200 members so far have signed up to a new group on the online social networking site—-railing against a new series on VH1 entitled Secrets of Aspen.
VHI has a four minute trailer available online—-the series begins on January 3rd.  and centers on the secret lives of Aspen’s elite—complete with the quest of six women seeking romance and a rich connection.
Aspen embraces messy vitality, says President of the Aspen Chamber Resort Association Debbie Braun, and that means pretty much anything goes, including the ongoing impression of Aspen as a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.
