Through the next few weeks, local relief efforts are increasing to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
All proceeds from a performance this Thursday night at the Viceroy Hotel in Snowmass Village of local comedians goes to the victims  (admission is free but donations are being taken).
Also on Thursday there will be a “Tea for Haiti” at Aspen’s St. Regis Hotel, sponsored by the American Red Cross.
On February 11th there will be a concert for the earthquake victims with performances of local artists at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen.
Spearheading relief to the Caribbean nation are Aspenites Joe and Susie Krabacher, who operate the Mercy and Sharing foundation.
Joe Krabacher is manning the home front—directing media and donors to activities and to raise what’s needed most right now: cash donations.
Susie Krabacher was able to get into Haiti this week, but only by driving with armed guards 12 hours through the Dominican Republic.
The Mercy and Sharing Foundation has two primary orphanages: one near Port au Prince—that complex heavily damaged.
The newer Williamson project located 30 miles northwest of the capitol has not been hit as hard.
But there’s no fuel, electricity, or cell phone service.
You can help:  make your donation online:  go to haitichildren.com
Local news has been awarded a seat in the press box for tomorrow’s hearing at the Pitkin county courthouse for actor Charlie Sheen.  Only four reporters will be let in.  The other 56 seats for the public will be decided by a lottery today.
