An Aspen police officer who allegedly used her influence to gain access to the Jazz aspen Snowmass concert series last fall for herself and members of her family:  is no longer a member of the department.
It is not being revealed whether Valerie McFarlane was fired or quit her job after being placed on administrative leave during an internal investigation, but she had turned down offers of a plea bargain in the case.  McFarlane was hired just over one year ago.
Another avalanche hit the slopes above Aspen over the weekend. On Friday several skiers were caught in a snow slide on the southwest side of Aspen Mountain.  No one was killed but one skier was hurt seriously after being pushed into a tree.
In Snowmass on Saturday, a group of seven out of state skiers left the boundary lines and became lost in Willow Creek basin. It took ski patrol several hours to bring the group out.
The 2010 International Paralympics Committee Alpine World Cup Finals begins in Aspen this week with competitions on Buttermilk Mountain. 
The 2010 census begins today.  Pitkin County has a special meeting planned for next Monday March 8th, to provide information about how the census will be conducted locally.
