An unidentified woman, on Monday, found a yearling bear cub on the back side of Aspen Mountain. The animal weighed only 13 pounds when she took it to the Aspen Animal Shelter; where later workers with the Division of Wildlife arranged for the transfer of the bear to an animal rescue center near Silt.
The bear may or may not make it, say those at the rehabilitation center; it is still in a slight state of hibernation and is being force fed yogurt and antibiotics in the effort to save its life.
Investigators are trying to determine how the woman found the young bear, or how she managed to transport it to the shelter.
Jane Norton, Ken Buck and Tom Wiens attacked the policies of the Obama administration at the Lincoln Day Dinner at the Aspen Elks Club on Tuesday.
All three are running for the senate seat now held by Senator Michael Bennet. Andrew Romanoff is challenging Bennet in the Democratic Primary.
A dozen other Republican candidates for various offices from across Colorado traveled to Aspen to attend that dinner last night.
The April elections for the mid-valley communities are being covered in local news.
Carbondale Mayor Michael Hassig has served two consecutive four year terms and will have to step down.
There are two candidates so far announced who will seek the Mayor’s job: Stacy Patch Bernot, and Ed Cortez; both have served as trustees. Three council seats are open in Carbondale.
In Basalt there are also three open seats at the table. The cut off for petitions to run for office is this Friday.
