Workers with the U.S. Census department met in Aspen on Thursday to determine how best to conduct the count locally. Similar groups of census officials are doing the same thing in Glenwood springs and the mid-valley in communities across the state.
Local news over the next few weeks will focus on stories about how the census is taken. The closest estimate of the current population of the entire country is about 309 million people.
But regarding the local tally the numbers have significance because federal tax dollars approved for programs including health care, housing and other social segments is based directly on the population.
Are accurate is the Census? Are you comfortable answering the ten questions on the form? Do you trust that your personal information will be secure? Those questions will be asked along with yours—-just send an email to news@aspenglenwood.com
The Aspen Institute is offering a special presentation this afternoon by Julia Bolz, founder of the project named “Journey with an Afghan School”.
Bolz is to trying to bring education to the children, especially the girls, who were denied the chance for school under the Taliban.
This fascinating lecture takes place at noon today at the Aspen Institute.
The setting was perfect: Aspen! The rich, the famous, the reality show called “Secrets of Aspen” was envisioned to be a hit, but viewer ratings are dismal!
Secrets, say industry watchers, will not have the numbers needed to return to the air. The series wrapped up the season on VH1 on February 21st.
